Most shirts that do not fit fail in a predictable way, and almost always because the buyer trusted a letter on a label rather than a number in centimetres.
The four measurements that matter
Take a shirt you already own and like, lay it flat, and measure these:
- Chest — armpit to armpit, then double it.
- Shoulder — seam to seam across the back.
- Sleeve — shoulder seam to cuff edge.
- Length — base of the collar to the hem.
Why we list garment measurements
A "medium" varies by several centimetres between brands, which is why every shirt on this site lists the measurements of that specific garment. Compare our numbers to the shirt on your table and the guesswork disappears.
Reading the fit description
- Slim — tapered through the waist, close on the arm.
- Tailored — a defined shape with room to move.
- Relaxed — straight through the body, roomier arm.
If you are between sizes
Size up. A shirt can be taken in by any tailor for a few hundred taka; one that is too tight across the shoulders cannot be fixed at all.
